Indonesian Surf Spots
Travelling to Indonesia for surf is probably on top of the to-do list of every serious surfer. The country has so many surf spots it’s ridiculous - and that’s just the world class breaks.
The islands of Bali and Lombok have been the destination of countless surfers over the years. Photos of Bali have been on the covers of surf mags since the 1970s. Pictures of glistening Indian Ocean barrels have caused many to dream of travelling there. For decades now also, photos of these glistening barrels have not just been about Bali but other surf spots from all over the archipelago.
Indonesia has approximately 17,500 islands. The islands that have any sort of exposure to the Indian Ocean will have some sort of surf. With a quick look at the map it soon becomes apparent that Indonesia has tons of surf. Anywhere from the top of West Sumatra to the distant coast of Papua contains surfing treasures - many still yet to be discovered.
